Bhagavad Gita - Vethathirium - Karma Yoga

Question: Sir, will you please compare Karma yoga according to Bhagavad-Gita and Vethathirium?

Answer : Though both Bhagavad-Gita and Vethathirium insist on Karma yoga, their way of explaining Karma yoga differ. Bhagavad-Gita says do your duty and don't expect the result. Whereas Vethathirium says doing action without hurting anybody is your duty. So, it says that considering past experience and present situation, calculate the future result. If the result will hurt anybody, don't do that action.

Bhagavad-Gita encourages war, while Vethathirium tries to create the world without war. Bhagavad-Gita tries to break the guilt. Whereas Vethathirium tries to avoid the hurt.

Bhagavad-Gita says that if you perform yajjna(sacrifice) to please the demigods, in return, demigods will please you by giving things that you desire. Without sacrifice if you enjoy things, you are a thief.

Whereas Vethathirium says that whatever the things you are using are the contribution of the world, labor of many people. As a gratitude, you should contribute something to the world from your side. Otherwise, you are a thief.

Bhagavad-Gita tells you to perform your duty to satisfy the God so that you will be unattached and free from bondage.

Whereas Vethathirium says that for every action there is a result. It's the cause and effect system of nature. This is the unfailing law of Nature. As the result is unavoidable, don't bother about the result and don't get attached to the result. Rather, focus your attention on your action. As is your action. So will be the result.

Bhagavad-Gita says that though the self realized person doesn't have any duties to perform, he should be an example to others.

Whereas Vethathirium says that though one has realized the self, he has to fulfill his hunger through food. He gets food from the world. Hence, he has to contribute something to the world.

Bhagavad-Gita has been written thousands of years ago according to the situation, while Vethathirium has been written to suit the current situation. Bhagavad-Gita is like a telephone, while Vethathirium is like a smartphone. From the telephone mobile phone has evolved and from the mobile phone smart phone has been evolved. In the same way, from ancient wisdom only Vethathirium has evolved. So, Vethathiriyam is the latest version of Karma yoga.
